Weekend with Best Friends!

In early January we went to Raleigh to visit the Blackmon's at their new house. The de Windt's traveled down from Northern Virginia too. There were six adults and seven kids (yep, we are officially out numbered). We had intended on only spending the day at their house and driving back to Wilmington that night. After a little persuasion from our friends not to leave, we ended up spending the night! The Blackmon house has plenty of room to host our large group so sleeping arrangements worked out fine. I loved that we spent a few extra hours together since we don't see each other as often as we would like.

First attempt at a kids group photo.
(Grayson is of course messing with his brother and making him cry)
From left...Andrew (4 yrs), Carrington (4 yrs), Alex (1 on 2.1.13), Giselle (4 as of 1.21.13), Hudson (4 months), Grayson (2 on 2.13.13), and Emmy (2 on 2.16.13)
Adults doing a fine job of managing the chaos!
We put them outside to play, alot. The older kids walked to the park and later had a party on the back porch.
Our first born children.
Loving on each other since early 2009 when we first started getting together for play dates.

 Our second born children...

 My third born child.
Wendy and Andrea are due in early June with number three! Wendy is having her third girl and Andrea is having her third boy! I can't wait to have all nine kiddos together at the beach this summer!
 Emmy playing little mommy!
The kids were patiently waiting for the dads to get back with dinner. Everyone was starving at this point so we told the little ones to be on the look out.
If utensils were available they would have been banging on the table for dinner. Dinner was followed by bed time. The three older kids slept in the same room together. They were bribed with a donut party in the morning if they stayed in their bed and were quiet. It took about two hours to get them to sleep but it happened and they slept through the night until 7am.
The next morning cartons on the Ipad kept them entertained until donuts arrived  We let them have donuts even though they didn't keep to their end of the bargain. Suckers! Let's be honest though...do you think they heard "go to bed" or "donut party in the morning". I wasn't about to tell six kids they couldn't have donuts!
I know one little girl that's going to be a good big sister come June!
Attempt # 2 at a kids group shot. New day, new attitude was the hope! Lots more smiles this time.
 Donut Party!!

Happy Early 1st Birthday to Alex!
Tuckered out from a fun 24 hours with the Blackmon and de Windts!! Look forward to our next party with two new babies!

Christmas Day

Carrington was the first child awake on Christmas morning. She came into our room and said, "I saw what Santa left but didn't go too close and look." She wasn't up early but still had to wait for her brothers to get up so we could all see what Santa brought. She must have asked a hundred times, "Can I go look yet and can we wake the boys?"

I put the kids on the steps for a picture. I envision one year they will all come down at the same time and I can take a picture in motion. Until then, it's staged and goes oh so well when trying to get them together. Below are the best two of about twenty taken.

Checking out their presents from Santa
Want to know what they are so tickled over? A toothbrush and tooth paste. Guess next year Santa knows that's all he needs to leave. It was by far their favorite gift!
 Digging deep into the stocking
Flipping through her daily devotional book. Notice Aaron in the background assembling Grayson's tool bench from Santa.
A movie for Grayson that doesn't involve Princesses!!
Hudson is happy watching the action around him.
Letters to the kids from Santa
Carrington got a LeapPad from Santa. The boys were just as excited to try it out.
Moving on to presents under the Christmas tree. Each child got three gifts to open.

Dad and Mom weren't left out!
 The best running shoes, ever!!
After opening presents we celebrated Jesus' birthday by singing happy birthday, blowing out a candle on top of a cinnamon roll and reading about the birth of Christ in our bible. Carrington wore a purple birthday hat in honor of Jesus.

The rest of the day was spent relaxing, playing with new toys, and having Christmas dinner at our neighbors house. Each Christmas gets better and better as the kids become more aware of the significance of Jesus' birthday, enjoy traditions that were remembered from the previous years, and become more excited about Christmas as a whole.

Christmas Eve in Wilmington

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were spent at our house in Wilmington. It's a tradition we'd like to keep so the kids can have Santa come down our chimney, and so we can spend family time together remembering the importance of Christmas. Christmas Eve was jam packed with things to do in preparation for the next day.

We started off by making cookies for Santa. The ol' guy got to munch on sugar cookies decorated by Carrington and Grayson, and chocolate chip cookies.

Then it was off to Christmas Eve service at Port City Community Church. We had yummy taco soup (it's become a family favorite) for dinner followed by the kids opened their last Advent calendar with a chocolate surprise inside.

To keep with a tradition started by my mom and dad, the kids opened their Christmas Eve present and found a new pair of pjs inside.
 (nice face, Carrington!)
Daddy read The Night Before Christmas to get the kids excited about Santa's arrival. I put the following three pictures below to show you what typically happens when the kids read books together at night...Grayson bothers Hudson...
 Which upsets Hudson..
And makes it so Hudson doesn't get to read books, and Grayson goes back to being the center of attention!
Wait, wait, wait...we forgot to do two important things...feed the reindeer...
and leave cookies for Santa. We really did forget!! I had to get Carrington out of bed and Grayson/Hudson were already asleep so she did the duties for her brothers. Notice Sandy the Elf waiting for Santa to pick him up and take him back to the North Pole.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! For real this time!!!

Christmas on the Go - Roanoke, VA

The after Christmas celebration took place in Roanoke at MeMe and Peeps. We joined up with Brett, Meredith and Madison the weekend after Christmas. I think this was the first time that Mom, Meredith and I have been apart on Christmas day. Having kids of our own and work make for new family traditions. The good thing about being together after Christmas this year - we got to cheer on Tech and watch them finally win a bowl game. The weekend was full of favorites...good food, good times watching the kids play together, good cold Christmas weather, and lots of good memories to take with us.

The perfect recipe for "One Happy MeMe"
-a big helping of grandkids around
Santa brought both girls a Leap Pad. They sat in the corner and played like they were little techy nerds.

 Look at all these presents!!!

He went from not having a single truck to having enough to start a trucking company.
 What's in here...
WIPES!! He could care less but I sure loved the gift.
We should name them Maddington when they are with each other. You just can't separate them.
I have a feeling the dogs were barking so they went to see who was outside.
Prepping for game day. We love tailgate food!
 Enjoy Meredith's hard work.
Three of the cutest little bakers!
